Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum – I visited it over a year ago when visiting Cubbon park. We visited the Visvesvaraya museum early after breakfast.

I didn’t know we’d be visiting this museum, but I’m glad we did! I’m someone who enjoys understanding the working of things around us. And this place, being a science and technology museum, was no doubt worth visiting.

The exhibits kept getting more interesting as we walked through. My friends had to drag me to the next one sometimes! Say had I been visiting alone, I’d have spent my whole day there.

So let’s get started and read on to know about some things to know when visiting the famous Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum in Bangalore.

Things to know before visiting about Visvesvaraya Museum

Here are some informative (and boring) things to know about when visiting the place.

  • Visvesvaraya Museum entry fee – It’s 0-75 rupees. For the general visitors, it’s 75 rupees and the prices are lesser and vary for school groups, people holding BPL cards, and more. Check out all the pricing details here on the official site.
  • The Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum timings – It’s open from 9:30 am to 6 pm all days of the year. But it remains closed on a few occasions like Deepavali. Here is a list of holidays from the official museum’s website.
  • Visit the museum in the mornings – The best time to visit the Visvesvaraya museum is in the mornings. Not only will there be more peace, but there also won’t be much chaos when you check out the displays.

While 75 rupees is the entry fee for most of us, you’ll see there’s also pricing given for other exhibitions in the museum like the 3D show, Science on a Sphere, and the Wright Brother’s flying simulator.

And the most important one – Visvesvaraya Museum location: It’s located on Kasturba Road, Ambedkar Veedhi – 560001.

Since we visited Cubbon park earlier in the morning, we just had to walk around to get to the museum after our breakfast.

Best Time to Visit Visvesvaraya Museum

As I said, it’ll take a day when you’re checking out each exhibit thoroughly. To the science enthusiasts, make sure to make more time for this place when visiting.

Keep a good 4 to 5 hours when you’re looking to examine the exhibits in detail. However, to most people visiting the museum just to pass time, around 2 to 3 hours is sufficient.

I’d stay longer and check out everything on the displays, but we were running out of time. So we had to leave early in the afternoon.

Exhibits at the museum

Most of the exhibits here are ones you’d find in many science museums in Karnataka, including the 3D shows. Still, there are more varieties to check out here:

The aircraft models hanging, the way some engines work, and even a large dinosaur model! (Well, the last one’s fun for kids)

I was more into the exhibits of working of gears, belt movements, engine working, and all the mechanical stuff. The movements kept me engrossed!

The museum consists of many rooms for different sorts of works. And to make it easier for the general audience, all the rooms are connected unidirectionally. You walk in one door into a room with several exhibits and then exit from another to a room with a different theme altogether.

You shall be walking a lot in the museum. Since most of the exhibits are well-maintained and fun to check out, it’s worth the energy. It’s fun when you know what the exhibits are about of course.

And then there are also some outdoor exhibits too. We didn’t have time to visit it – but should it be the one with Archimedes’ Screw, don’t leave it out! Kids enjoy those.

Conclusion – Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum

That ends this post on my visit to Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum. Here’s a thing to remember before visiting:

  • Don’t leave out the quiet exhibits: There will always be some exhibits that no one cares about – usually something that looks uninteresting and stationary. Check them out yourself first!

All the exhibits have explanations given. Everything has its own story to tell in a museum – and that’s what makes it beautiful. You’ll have to hear them for yourself ;)
